Matterhorn Character List

An inherent problem of reading a book about an army is that there are a lot of characters.  I personally had a hard time keeping all of the characters straight in Matterhorn. So while the book has a chart in the front of it, I put together an expanded, more complete version.  The chart adds the important supporting characters the book left out.  I also noted their race since its such a big issue in the book.

Below the chart is a list of all of the characters and what (if anything) happened to them.  If you hover over the name with your mouse, it will give the necessary details needed to keep the characters straight.  SPOILER WARNING: Only look at the hover descriptions if you only want a reminder for that specific character as they contain spoilers of what happened to the character.

Let us know if we left out anything/anyone or if there’s something you’d change about this chart. Its here to be a resource.

About zach

Staring out across the hazy mountain range on his latest summitting of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Zach saw with a clearness he had not yet seen. "People should tremble at the very sound of my name", he thought. And it was so. "I should master the manly arts of the world, such as barehanded hunting and blacksmithing". And it was so. "People should call me Z$". And it was so.

I have to read like 400 pages of this in like a day…. 🙁
At least it’s pretty interesting, and more understandable with this awesome guide!!!! 😀

  2. I am also a good way through the book and finding this guide was a bonus indeed. I do think that I will study it in more detail once I have finished, because I have a feeling that this is one of the few books I will read twice and the guide will be great in the way of preparation for second time around!

    • Agreed, Pete. I have a feeling the first half of the book would be a lot easier to keep track of after through a second time.

  3. Thank God someone put this down on paper. Just printed it out and will start my audiobook again, this time without so much confusion. Thanks again.

  4. Very useful character guide, as I make my way through the book for a second iteration (this time on CD). The only correction I’d suggest is that Second Lieutenant Kendall’s ulimate disposition is unclear. He was wounded by gunfire on Helicopter Hill while the company is defending against NVA night attack (foolishly making it known out he was an officer, which targeted him by NVA sappers). He and his radio operator both suffer collapsed lungs, but it is mentioned Kendall is medevac’d once Matterhorn is re-secured (and choppers are able to bring in supplies/take out the wounded).

    Just food for thought 😉

    Best regards…..
