Saddleback Leather

Here at iUMBC, we love all things manly, not just books. So when my brother-in-law told me about Saddleback, I knew that we had to share its story.

It’s a pretty amazing story, and you can read the whole thing here. The short of it is that a guy living in Mexico went to a leatherworker and described a bag he wanted made. He said he wanted it to be something his grandchildren fought over when he was gone. The old mexican leatherworker said “si” and he said “bueno.”

After carrying it around for awhile and getting multiple compliments a day and seeing people staring at it from across the street, he had a few more made and they sold in just a couple hours. From there the business began and grew quickly.

Make no mistake, these bags are not cheap. In fact, they’re hella expensive. But you are investing in a family heirloom, and one that won’t sit on the shelf all its days. They have also expanded to make other leather items, including wallets, belts, and more.

I know this is coming after Christmas, but perhaps the timing is better because now you can save up all year for it. In my case, I can save up for many years.

You can buy them on their site or on Amazon here.

About Luke

Luke learned to read at the age of two, whereupon he decided, like much of the male population, that it was a chore to be done only when absolutely necessary. Then suddenly at age nineteen, he discovered good books—he has been reading voraciously ever since, earning multiple literature and writing degrees. At any given moment you'll find him reading at least one book, smoking a cigar, up fifty feet in a tree he free-climbed.
